WICKS
DO YOU NEED TO USE A NEW WICK EVERYTIME?
No Way, you can relight the same wick multiple times and burn it as long as it lasts. Each wick can burn around 8 hours. That said, we give you plenty of wicks with every Akari candle purchase to refresh your sand and wicks making it look new again.
You can also cut the wick and re-use the part that hasn't burnt yet. Or flip the wick and bury the melt pool for zero waste while still making your candle look brand new. Bare in mind cutting the wick doesn't mean you get another 8 hours.
DO I NEED TO USE A WICK HOLDER?
No, the fact our wicks are NOT attached to the bottom of the jar makes them much safer than traditional candles.
When your Akari wicks get close to running out, it simply falls over into the melt pool and self-extinguishes. This means if you accidentally leave your Akari candle burning (which we of course do not recommend, it's still real fire), the flame will go out after about 7-8 hours. Our instructions say to leave at least an inch (2cm) of space between the bottom of the wick and the container, which means the wick will self-extinguish before the heat reaches the container.
SCENTS
ARE THEY SCENTED?
No, All our Sand wax comes completely natural with no scents added. This is because of our mission in creating a healthy candle.
However if you do want to scent your candle you can do so by dropping some essential oil or candle fragrance oil close to the wick BEFORE lighting it. DO NOT ADD once candle is lit.
CAN I ADD MY OWN SCENT?
Yes, Just add a few drops of your favourite essential oil or candle fragrance oil close to the wick BEFORE lighting it.
Please do so at your own risk/comfort level. Keep in mind oils are very flammable and should never be added to a burning candle. You'll find some oils work better than others, so experiment carefully until you find some that work.
It is the user's responsibility for all modifications made to the candles.
USING YOUR AKARI
WHAT CONTAINERS CAN I USE?...
Glass, Ceramic, Metal, Wood, Plastic - You can use any container you like! Just make sure your wick has at least 2 inches (4cm) from the sides of your container and 1 inch (2cm) from the bottom of your container to ensure safety.
WHAT IS THE BURN TIME?...
Each wick burns for approximately 8 hours.
CAN I USE AKARI FOR FLOATING CANDLES?...
Yes! Akari sand candles can be used as floating candles. Simply place the sand and wick in water and light it.
HOW CAN I EXTINGUISH AKARI SAND CANDLES?...
You can extinguish your Akari candle by gently blowing it out, using a candle snuffer, or simply covering the sand to cut off oxygen to the flame.
CAN I REUSE THE SAND AFTER USING IT AS A FLOATING CANDLE?
Yes You Can! Just scoop out the sand with a spoon or catch them in a fine-meshed strainer. Then leave them out to dry on paper towels before reusing. The more you spread them out, the faster they dry.

ARE AKARI CANDLES SAFE?...
Yes! Akari candles are designed with safety in mind. The wicks are not attached to the bottom of the container, which means they self-extinguish when they get low. However, always treat them as real fire and follow proper candle safety guidelines.
CAN I BURN MY AKARI CANDLE IN A WOODEN OR PLASTIC CONTAINER?
YES YOU CAN! However in order to do this safely, make sure your wick has at least 2 inches (4cm) from the sides of your container and 1 inch (2cm) from the bottom of your container. This will ensure the melt pool does melt onto and burn anything. As well as making sure the flame does heat up or burn your container. Remember its real fire, treat it as such.
ARE THEY PET FRIENDLY / SAFE AROUND DOGS/CATS?...
Yes, Akari candles are pet-friendly as they contain no harmful chemicals or toxic scents. However, as with any open flame, always keep candles out of reach of pets and never leave them unattended around animals.

HOW LONG AFTER I COMPLETE A PURCHASE CAN I ASK FOR A REFUND?
A refund request must be submitted within 30 days after the purchase is made.
CAN I CANCEL MY ORDER?
We allow cancellations of orders that have not yet been shipped. please contact us at info@akaricandles.co.nz if you wish to cancel your order for a full refund. Please note most orders are shipped within 12-24 hours of your purchase.
