Here’s the story of how Akari Sand Wax Candles came to life.

For us candles are a representation of relaxation, a peaceful environment and calmness.

However we also realised there are many issues that come with traditional candles. We saw a whole lot more potential in the general concept and wanted to find a way to solve the issues we saw with regular candles:

• Candles are wasteful - we hated throwing away old candle jars and wasting all that unusable wax left behind!

• Most generic waxes release chemicals into your space which can be harmful to our body. 

• Most scented candles release toxins and chemicals into the air we breath linked to Cancer, respiratory issues, Allergies, Skin and Eye irritation and Headaches.

• Candles get more unattractive with each use (especially if you don't burn them right the first time and cause them to tunnel...but who reads the fine print anyway!??)

• Customizing and making your own candles takes so much time and work!!

So we decided to create a modern & clean-burning candle. As well as a product that doesn't cause waste and is easily customizable. We were convinced that we could create something with real value.  So we started researching and talking to multiple manufactures to learn as much as we could about different waxes and how we could bring our creative concept to life.

We were determined not to replace one environmental problem with another, so it was important to us to create a clean-burning candle made from sustainable raw plant based materials. We also wanted our packaging to be convenient and practical to use and store, while choosing materials that were kinder to our planet. After months of different product and packaging concepts and samples, we joint with manufactures that were able to create the perfect expression of our creative and eco friendly concept.

We finally had a product we were proud of. We called it Akari Sand Wax Candles. And started introducing it to our beautiful country New Zealand and in time, the world!
