ORDERING
ARE THE 30 WICKS THAT COMES WITH THE BOX ENOUGH OR DO I NEED MORE? Yes, 30 wicks should be plenty for you to get through 500g of sand wax. However, if you are planning on creating candles with multiple wicks each time we recommend adding an additional 30pck of wicks from our accessories list.
DO YOU HAVE SCENTED OPTIONS? No, We have decided to stay away from scents as our mission is to create a healthy, safe and eco friendly option for you and your family/friends to enjoy. HOWEVER, you can add your own essential oils or candle fragrance oils around your wick to scent your candles. Please refer to our instruction page on how to do this safely.
DO YOU SHIP EVERYWHERE IN NZ? Yes Akari candles ships to every corner of NZ. Its very important to us that every one has the opportunity to enjoy our new way of enjoying candle light while caring for our planet.

SHIPPING & DELIVERY
HOW LONG DOES DELIVERY TAKE? Depending on your location it can take between 2-5 business days. Most orders will only take between 2-3 days. We do our best to ensure you get to enjoy your candle ASAP :)
DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY? No, We're currently only available in New Zealand. How ever we are working hard to expand into Australia and the US. If you are really interested in Akari and you do live overseas, please reach out to our team via info@akaricandles.co.nz and we can do our best to organise and quote shipping options to your destination. WHAT IS THE BURN TIME? The total burn time varies greatly based on how the product is used. Do you relight the same wick or refresh it each time? Do you use one or more wicks at a time? How long are you letting them burn before refreshing your candle? All these will affect how long your Akari sand candle will last. That said, the sand wax burns slower compared to traditional candles and each 500g Akari Candle can provide up to 120 hours of burn time. Each wick lasts around 8 hours, you get 30 wicks with every 500g candle.
CAN I REUSE THE SAND AFTER USING IT AS A FLOATING CANDLE? Yes You Can! Just scoop out the sand with a spoon or catch them in a fine-meshed strainer. Then leave them out to dry on paper towels before reusing. The more you spread them out, the faster they dry.
USING YOUR AKARI
HOW CAN I EXTINGUISH AKARI SAND CANDLES? You have options! You can use a flame snuffer, dip the wick with a dipper, or simply blow it out gently. Don't worry, the sand wax won't fly everywhere. Just blow out the flame carefully. Check out our Accessory Kit for a luxurious way to extinguish your candles!
CAN I USE AKARI FOR FLOATING CANDLES? Yes, all of our white sand wax floats on water while our coloured products are NOT suitable for floating candles. We recommend pouring at least a 2" height of white sand wax on top of water and making sure the bottom of the wick is not touching the water. Just add any decorations you'd like into a vase, fill it with water until the decor is submerged, and then pour Akari sand on top.
WHAT CONTAINERS CAN I USE? Wondering which containers are safe to use with AKARI Sand Candles? Fireproof containers are recommended, but it's possible to also use other containers safely as long as they're big enough. The key is to prevent the melt pool from reaching the container edge and to keep the container from heating up while burning. Generally, that means 4" minimum container width at the narrowest part but test it carefully and make sure it's not heating up while burning. Also, make sure to have at least 2 inches of pearls around each wick (use only one wick in a 4-inch wide container!), and least 1 inch between the bottom of the wick and the bottom of the container. WICKS
HOW LONG DOES EACH WICK LAST? Each wick will last around 8 hours. This is completely dependant on how you use the wick. How deep you insert it, if you have trimmed it or not to fit your jar, if you put multiple wicks really close together etc. Please check out our instructions page and Wicks Blog to learn the best way to maximize your wicks. Each 500g box comes with 30 wicks.
DO YOU NEED TO USE A NEW WICK EVERYTIME? No Way, you can relight the same wick multiple times and burn it as long as it lasts. Each wick can burn around 8 hours. That said, we give you plenty of wicks with every Akari candle so you can continue to refresh your sand and wicks making it look new again. You can also cut the wick and re-use the part that hasn't burnt yet. OR flip the wick and bury the melt pool for zero waste while still making your candle look brand new. Bare in mind cutting the wick doesn't mean you get another 8 hours.
MY WICK EXTINGUISHES QUICKLY, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? The most common reason your wick is not burning for the full 8 hours is if the wick hasn't been inserted deep enough into the sand. When inserting the wick, aim to have only about a 1.5cm tip sticking out, just enough to light it. Leaving the wick out more than this will decrease the burn time. Another reason this can happen is if you're putting multiple wicks close together as the heat generated will make them burn quicker.
DO I NEED TO USE A WICK HOLDER? No, the fact our wicks are NOT attached to the bottom of the jar makes them much safer than traditional candles. When your Akari wicks get close to running out, it simply falls over into the melt pool and self-extinguishes. This means if you accidentally leave your Akari candle burning (which we of course do not recommend, it’s still real fire), the flame will go out after about 7-8 hours. Our instructions say to leave at least an inch (3cm) of space between the bottom of the wick and the container, which means the wick will self-extinguish before the heat reaches the container.
SCENTS
ARE THEY SCENTED? No, All our Sand wax comes completely natural with no scents added. This is because of our mission in creating a healthy, safe and eco friendly candle experience. However if you do want to scent your candle you can do so by dropping some essential oil or candle fragrance oil close to your wick BEFORE lighting. DO NOT ADD once candle is lit.
CAN I ADD MY OWN SCENT? Yes, just add a few drops of your favourite essential oil or candle fragrance oil close to the wick BEFORE lighting it. Please do so at your own risk/comfort level. Keep in mind oils are very flammable and should never be added to a burning candle. You'll find some oils work better than others, so experiment carefully until you find some that work. It is the user’s responsibility for all modifications made to the candles.
SAFETY
ARE THEY PET FRIENDLY / SAFE AROUND DOGS/CATS? Yes, our sand wax is plant-based, clean-burning, and pet-friendly. We still recommend keeping them out of reach from your pets, since they’re technically not edible and still real fire. But you'll be glad to know our sand is non-toxic and not expected to be harmful if a small amount is ingested. You can also have peace of mind, knowing that our sand wax candles self-extinguish if accidentally spilled as the sand snuffs the flame. Or if left burning accidentally as the wick will eventually fall over and extinguish in the melt pool.
CAN I BURN MY AKARI CANDLE IN A WOODEN OR PLASTIC CONTAINER? YES YOU CAN! However in order to do this safely, make sure your wick has at least 2 inches (6cm) from the sides of your container and 1 inch (3cm) from the bottom of your container. This will ensure the melt pool does melt onto and burn anything. As well as making sure the flame does heat up or burn your container. Remember its real fire, treat it as such.
ARE AKARI CANDLES SAFE? Our Sand wax is made from 100% highly purified plant-based wax. Which burns cleanly with minimal smoke or soot. They do not contain paraffin any known allergens. You can also take some comfort knowing that our sand candles self-extinguish if accidentally spilled as the sand snuffs the flame. They also self-extinguish if accidentally left burning unattended, as the wick will eventually fall over and "drown" in the melt pool.
