How Often Should I Replace the Wick in My Akari Candle?
You can relight the same wick multiple times and enjoy it for up to 8 hours. Each Akari Candle is supplied with additional wicks, allowing you to refresh your candle as often as you wish to maintain its appearance.
You also have the option to trim the wick and reuse the unused portion or flip it to submerge it in the melt pool, promoting a zero-waste approach while keeping your candle looking pristine. Please note that trimming the wick will reduce the overall burn time.

When used properly, Akari's organic cotton wicks provide approximately 8 hours of burn time. For the best results, insert the wick almost completely into the sandwax, leaving just a small tip exposed—Just over half a centimetre (about ¼ inch) so it’s easy to light. This simple step helps you enjoy your candles to the fullest!
Essential Wick Tips: What to Avoid with Akari Candle
The most common mistake with Akari Candle wicks is leaving them too far out of the sandwax. When the wick is exposed too much, it burns quickly until it hits the sandwax, which can significantly shorten your burn time—from over 12 hours to just a few. For optimal use, make sure to insert the wicks properly into the sandwax, allowing them to burn for about 8 hours when used correctly.
Wick Holders: Are They Needed for Akari Candles?
No, our wicks are not attached to the bottom of the jar, which enhances their safety compared to traditional candles. When the wick nears the end of its burn time, it gently falls over into the melt pool and self-extinguishes. While we strongly advise against leaving your Akari candle burning unattended, in the event it is left lit, the flame will naturally go out after approximately 8 hours.
Furthermore, our instructions recommend maintaining at least an inch of space between the bottom of the wick and the container. This design ensures that the wick extinguishes before the heat can reach the glass, preventing any risk of damage or overheating. This thoughtful feature prioritizes safety while allowing you to enjoy the warm glow of your candle.
